Rep. Sanchez: Rove should go to jail

'Verdict' guest host David Shuster talked with Rep. Linda Sanchez, D-Calif., about Karl Rove's refusal to testify before the House Judiciary Committee. Sanchez is chairwoman of the Commercial and Administrative Law subcommittee and Thursday, rejected Rove's executive privilege claim as inadequate.

Rove was subpoenaed for a hearing on the alleged politicization of the Department of Justice under the Bush administration.

Does anyone else feel like we are living in a South American country ruled by martial law and despotic el president and his cabinet? Drag Karl Rove in and find a room in Congress to lock him up in. I don't care where you lock him up. It's time this administration was brought back to the law. I see that the Federal Prosecutors have no trouble picking up law abiding citizens for things they haven't even thought about - but when this smiling buffoon breaks the law he claims "executive privilege" they turn a blind eye to the justice they were taught in that very expensive law school they attended in favor of kissing of to our new dictator. Who voted him in as President? According to the laws that haven't yet been changed by Bush/Cheney - the law is not on Karl Rove's side. The way things are right now this is not a country for the people - this is a country for the rich and connected. What happened to the America the WWII GI's fought for? Gone, gone, gone..........the next government will convene at Goldman Sachs. It looks as though we will need to have another revolution to regain the America our forefathers fought for. I don't think most Americans want a World Government nor one run by big money and few special people.

Simple observation is the Neocon Gov.. er.. Cheney Gov.. err.. The United States government has always wants a "I Win" button on acheiving their goals. They don't want a working Republic because it would mean they wouldn't acheive their goals, they honestly wouldn't mind a real Democracy because they can scare "the people" into doing what they want which would lead to an Oligarchy. As the people we're supposed to have the biggest "dogs" in the fight through our elected officials, recently their power has been stripped through fear. Fear of not being "patriotic" fear of terrorist attacks, fear of some dirty secret being dredged up if they don't vote a certain way. In my personal opinion, if the 9/11 attacks were terrorists which led us to start this war, history actually states that would be a rarity. Most wars the United States have been involved in were started through some less than honest means. Lusitania, Pearl Harbor (debatable), Gulf of Tonkin (see Kissingers remarks), Bay of Pigs etc etc. Rove is just a bit players, they don't want him testifying because he has information that would be bad for them, but ultimately he's nothing. Similarly, Cheney and Bush never testified under oath because "lying", which they would have, is the ONE thing (like Pres Clinton) that would spark an impeachment hearing and they would have been SOL. There's more to my rant, but that's it for now.

It seems clear to the American people that Karl Rove has violated the law. The question now is what is taking the Congress so long in doing something about it. I believe the time has long since passed for Chairman Conyers to have Rove in handcuffs.

I used to believe we lived in a country where everyone was equal under the law. That is a joke. Please convict Rove for his crimes.......but do so after Dictator Bush is out of office so Bush won't be able to give him a presidential pardon.

I don't think congress has the fortitude to put this one of many criminals in jail but that is exactly where he (and the rest belong). The "bar is set low" I keep hearing well I think that is incorrect, these people Cheney, Rumsfield, Bush, Rove, Attington, Fieth(spell?), and others have resembled more the "THIRD REICH" they are off the page.

I'm not an attorney, but isn't executive privilege meant to protect conversations with the president? Doesn't invoking that privilege indicate Bush was involved? Since Bush was selected by the Supreme Court, his administration has shown nothing but contempt for the Constitution and have succeeded in degrading our executive branch to that of a third world dictatorship. Congress has an obligation to hold Rove accountable. They owe it to the American people and the authors of the 18th century document Bush, Cheney and Rove choose to ignore.

It is interesting that the LAW executive Privilege covers Mr. Rove, but isn't true that Mr. Rove's lawyers requested from the Congressional and senate committees a list of all questions for Mr. Rove to respond too. Which he did.. But again the Democratic leadership really does not care about what questions were answered by Mr. Rove, but to make waste of the people's money for another public show to destroy the current administration and the GOP. Let be real about this, If you really want to know how much of the American people's money is being wasted for political reasons and not for the truth of the investigations, contact the GAO and they would be more than willing to share this information to all American. You will be surprised of what you will learn.

Remember we are talking about the American People's Money, not the Congress or the Senate. A wake up call for all…

I agree. Rove should be in jail. This man has violated the US Constitution so many times, one is led to believe he is contemptous of the rule of law. I am disappointed in John McCain for hiring Rove's team to dirty up his campaign with personal attacks and petty and disrespectful (to voters) tactics against Obama. Also, with his reputation, I cannot understand (with his rotten history) why Fox and another reputable print media house, has hired him to comment on the Presidential Campaign. After all, even President Bush has had to ask him to go, so damaging was he to Bush's Presidency and Legacy. He reminds me of the infamous J.Edgar Hoover - the end justifies the means, even though the means trample on the rights of the American People and the American Constitution. Rove misdeeds are not an issue of Republican or Democrat partisanship. It is an issue that strikes at the root of observance and respect of the rights of Americans and the Constitution. Rove has turn corners, subverted and violated the safeguards provided to Americans by the Founding Fathers, against the possible abuse by Politicians and their Operatives.

Please- Go after Bush's brain? YOU nor Congress would go after Bush after hearing he OK'd outing a CIA agent during a "War", he FAKED intel to link Iraq and 9-11, he LIED about Iraq WMD's, got 4000+ American soldiers killed and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. They "allowed" 9-11, attacked Afghanistan supposedly to go after bin Laden, but 9-11 isn't even mentioned in his FBI wanted poster! Plus- Bush has quit looking for him and let him stay free countless times... or was that George Tenet... who Bush gave a medal to? Why doesn't the media just tell it like it is. These guys have SO MUCH power behind them they scare the panties off "any" opposition....Like those in the media that got mailed Anthrax like the top Dems in Congress did. Notice- 1) ZERO "Bush-Cheney" investigations by EITHER for 8 years? 2) Suddenly we get an FBI investigation team CHANGE and POOF! A DEAD "SURE-FIRE" suspect! = NO TRIAL! Over! Like 9-11 was SUPPOSED to be! Is this like the faked bin Laden "confession tape" that Rumsfeld put out? The "faked" Jessica Lynch resue? The faked "Oficial Navy Video" of an Iranian gunboat threatening the US Navy. The "simple mistake" of flying nukes over American soil and violating 30 years of federal laws and military rules, ONLY OK'able by Generals in the Pentagon! No investigations...EVER! +++++

Except if it's about Obama and then YOWSR!!! We'll look into his family's family, and every cousin, supporter, and pastor we can. McCain? No. Hillary? No. Bush? No. -----

Go after Rove? What a joke. Sure they will try, as everyone has a grudge against him and his dirty tactics...that Bush OBVIOUSLY OK'd- But the LAST guy they only "imprisoned" for just LYING under oath got off SCOOT Free!

Hey, heres a great one, Lets send Rove to Guantanamo for a little friendly "interrogation", after all the information about the "Administrations" crimes against the Constitution have been extracted from his smug, arrogant, self rightous,ego-centric self, put him in front of a civilian tribunal court. When he is found guilty though, what punishment is befitting of such an evil person? I got it! A one way ticket to the space station with no means of communicating with anyone. He would absolutely flip-out, go bonkers, lose his mind. No, on second thought thats just not harsh enough.

Is it me or does Rove remind you of Himmler or what? He is so zealous that the ends justify the means and that a fascist Republican state is the utopia of Americanism. It is absolutely essential that this creep pays for his lies and his crimes. It is an important event in American history. Had he shut out the press (as he attempted) we would have had a full blown coup. We need to openly and honestly unwind all the unconstitutional activities that he and stupid pulled off, which is the only way to ensure that this does not happen again.
